Now that spring has well and truly sprung it’s time to dust off the garden furniture, add bright colors to your wardrobe and fresh blooms to your home décor.
It’s also a lovely time of year to host afternoon gatherings of friends and family, bringing those you love together over food and drink and (hopefully!) enjoying the outdoors and the feeling of sun on your skin.
And we have just the idea for wowing your guests with springtime color and flavor – with the added bonus that it takes very little effort for very gorgeous results.
Edible Flower Ice Cubes
Edible flower-filled ice cubes are a striking way to serve delicious drinks of any kind, from cocktails and mocktails to gin and juice. And they’re super-easy to make!
- Just grab an ice cube tray – the standard size works just fine, but they also come in different shapes to suit different sized glasses or simply for the sheer novelty factor.
- Gather some edible flowers. Make sure they’re edible! Edible flowers you’ll commonly find in your garden include pansies, roses, nasturtiums and geraniums. You can also use flowers from any herbs, and many grocery stores now sell edible flowers if you don’t grow your own.
- Place the flowers in the ice cube tray, and pour water over them. Make sure you don’t fill the cubes to the top as water expands and will overflow, leaving you with messy ice cubes.
- Pop them in the freezer for at least a couple of hours, or ideally overnight.
And voilà! Quick and easy flower-filled ice cubes that make your drinks look simply gorgeous. Your guests will be impressed, and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy their company.
Side tip – for clear ice cubes which show off your flowers to full effect, use twice-boiled or purified water rather than water straight from the faucet which can make the ice go cloudy.
These beautiful spring drinks pair perfectly with our spring candle collection, which also takes inspiration from nature. Decorate your table with spring candles, fresh flowers and pastel-colored tableware for that perfect spring-themed gathering, and enjoy!
